  • THE STREETS OF TEMA, GHANA

    Tema my love…

I’ve always had much love for the city Tema. As some of guys may know, I was born and raised in Tema,Ghana until about 12 years old when my family moved to The Netherlands. Tema is one of the ten districts of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Tema is grouped into twenty six-communities and still growing. The most popular and busiest communities are 1 , 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 13 (Sakumono). My family has a house in community 9. This is where we lived when we were in Ghana.

The love in the communities always seems to amuse me. I can only truly talk about the community which i used to live and always visit when i go to Ghana (community 9). The neighbours (area people as called in Ghana) look out for each other in good and bad times. They go to parties, market and funerals together like one big family. The people are always outdoors and seem so happy. The atmosphere in the area is always good. It’s Amazing to see people with such little material possession yet happy with what they own and protect it with their all.

I am always motivated when i return back to Netherlands from Ghana, hence i try my very best to replicate the same thing done in Ghana in the Netherland. Try and set an example of how they do it in Ghana. Some villages in Netherland do the same cultural practices as done in Ghana. Thought I’ve never really experienced it as strong as it is in the streets of Tema.
