    What is rice water?

First things first, before we dive into rice water for thin fine natural hair, we have to understand what rice water is, the benefits and if it will work for us. Rice water is basically the starch residue left behind from the rice after cooking it or washing it. this stash contains a lot of vitamins that can be used for skin care, hair care and it stimulates blood circulation.

    Why use rice water?

According to research rice water have been used by women in the Heian period in Japan. The use to bath their hair in rice water to keep it healthy and as a result to that their had floor length hair.

In China, there are also Yao women who live in a village called Huangluo. They are best known for having hair that averages 6 feet long. This is because the bathe their hair in rice water. Which helps them to keep their hair color for long, preventing grey hair until they reach their 80s…. wauww!! This explains the whole trend around rice water. Knowing this the first thing that comes to my mind is: I need rice water in my hair now (and always) haha.

Does rice water work for thin/fine natural hair?

We finally got to the big question. Rice water for thin fine natural hair, does this work for our thin fine natural hair?

    • The good news is YES!  Rice water for thin fine natural hair is totally save. Rice water can also be used on thin fine natural hair because rice water is wonderful for all textures of hair, all hair needs nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. So as long as your hair needs its vitamins, you can use rice water. Is that not great?
    • The bad news is, it depends on the needs of your hair. Like mentioned before, as long as your hair needs the vitamins, the nutrients you can use rice water or waterer you need to provide it. But if your hair doesn’t need extra nutrient or your har has enough nutrient or your hair is overloaded with nutrient then it’s not advisable to you rice water. because it can cause damage to your hair.

There are a few ways to find out if your hair has enough nutrient or your hair can absolve the nutrient. You can simply find out by trying out and see how your hair reacts to it or you can do a porosity text and see if you have absolve nutrients early or not.

I have seen a few videos on youtube where people dilute the rice water to suit their hair needs. Some people also warm the rice water up so that their hair absolve it easier.

How to make it rice water for thin fine hair?

There are a lot of ways people choose to make their rice water for thin fine hair. It’s important to find out for your self which way works better for you. This is the 3 ways most people choose to prepare it: Soaking, Boiling and fermented.

    Soaking:

The quickest way is to soak the rice water.

    • take ½ cup of uncooked rice
    • make sure to rinse thoroughly and get all the dirty, possible chemicals of the rice before using it.
    • put the rice in a bowl with 2–3 cups of water (depending on the amount you are making, which will depend on how long ur hair is and how you plan on using it.
    • leave to soak for a minimal 30 minutes.
    • strain the rice water into a clean bowl and use it.

    Fermented vs. plain rice water:

A lot of people claim that fermenter rice water is better than plain water. studies have proven that fermented substance has a higher amount of antioxidants. And as we all know antioxidants is the magic ingredient that helps combat damage hair and skin cells. That why a lot of beauty products uses it. But like i mentioned before its important to do your own reach based on what your hair needs. You don’t want to have protein (or other nutrients) overload and break off your hair.

    • To ferment rice water, follow steps 1–4 of the soaking method. Before straining, leave the rice water to stand at room temperature for up to minimal 12 hours and maximal 3 days, allowing it to ferment. Strain the rice water into a clean bowl before use. If you made a big batch you can keep it in the refrigerator.

    Boiling

Another way to make rice water is by boiling the rice. Me personally i am not a fan of the method, because, in my head, most of the good ingredient will be damaged by boiling the rice water. This is still an ongoing argument.

    • Cover ½ cup of rice with double the water typically used for cooking. Cook the rice in boiling water and strain the rice water into a clean bowl, let it cool down before use.

Regarding the type of rice to use. the best is long grain white rice over other varieties. “Brown is rich, but the problem with richer rice is it that it has too much protein, which can lead to protein overload if not careful.
